How Can severe Pain In The Rib Cage And Shoulders be Treated?

I have severe pain in my right side of rib cage and the pain continues around to my back & up to my shoulder blades. my doctor says it is nothing.. just puts me on pain pills and sent me for PT.. which aggravates it. I have a scar that starts up between my breasts and goes towards my right hip. I thought it was scar tissue; asked if it could be that or the netting they put in after the operation. because at times it feels like my lung is being twisted.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it needs to be evaluated by a detailed chest examination and chest Xray to rule out any respiratory pathology like pneumothorax or consolidation etc. If that turns out to be normal a baseline ultrasound and serum amylase with liver functions should be evaluated to rule out pancreatic or gall bladder relating illness as such pains can also radiate the way you explained it.

If these all are normal, antacids and motility agents can be used and a gastroentrologist review should be sought out for any need of endoscopy.

Only OTC Pain killer that should be uses should be acetaminophen avoiding others as those can aggravate any gastric cause.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
